The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and the Airports Council International – Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) have formalized a framework for strategic cooperation aimed at strengthening regional air connectivity. The new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) seeks to optimize air access and foster sustainable growth for CTO member states over the next three years. The agreement also outlines joint studies on the impact of aviation and tourism on the regional economy. Rafael Echevarne, Director General of ACI-LAC, emphasized that air connectivity is fundamental to uniting the Caribbean islands with each other and with the rest of the world. This MoU was signed at the conclusion of CTO's first Air Connectivity Summit, held in Bermuda. Echevarne highlighted that coordination between airports and tourism stakeholders will facilitate more precise approaches to planning and capacity development for regional resilience. The agreement will have an initial term of three years, serving as a dynamic platform for implementing specific initiatives to enhance the competitiveness of Caribbean destinations through optimized air infrastructure. Dona Regis-Prosper, Secretary General and Executive Director of CTO, stated that this alliance reflects the need for strong collaboration between the aviation sector and key players in each destination. Areas of cooperation outlined in the MoU include the organization of conferences, workshops, and roundtables, as well as executive education and technical training programs.
